2009 Ontogeny Oakville, Red Wine
While the 2008 Ontogeny had some tannin that dominated for the first part of last year (though they softened quickly in bottle), the 2009 has an expansive seductive mid palate right from the start. It is again a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Verdot, but in ’09 the merlot gives it a chocolate decadent quality that I think will be this wines most memorable quality. The entry is all about dark plum and cherries, but the cocoa and mocha flavors build on the finish.
