2010 Red Wine, Napa Valley, Ontogeny
This wine has taken on a life of it’s own and in 2010, we used more Cabernet Sauvignon then ever to make sure that the final blend had the dark fruit flavors that has made Ontogeny so special in past vintages. We ended up with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 15% Merlot. It has an amazing fruit impression on the palate and a plush finish. To ensure that the 2010 Ontogeny could stand toe to toe with its siblings we used a considerable amount of our Harbison Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, which is so precious, but the wine shines because of it.

Authentication
For the 2010 vintage, Bevan Cellars is utilizing IProof, a new tool to communicate with our consumers via text message and IProof RFID tags, which can be read by cell phones that are enabled with near-field communications.

This system provides you with several different pieces of information. The first is to authenticate your wine and provide you with information of its provenance. Via text message it sends confirmation of the bottle’s origins and our current tasting notes. You can also retrieve critical reviews and any updates on the wine. It also allows people who are interested in joining our mailing list to simply text us their email address.
